Food Donations

Since the beginning of Schenectady Greenmarket in 2008, farm vendors have donated excess produce to help fight food insecurity in Schenectady. Starting in 2014, the market began working with its partners MVP Health Care, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, City Mission of Schenectady and the Schenectady Ambassadors to bring unsold food to City Mission. The partnership has been fruitful with over 8,000 lbs. of food, or roughly 6,700 meals donated in the last two years. In 2015 alone, from June through October, the market’s vendors donated over 5,400 meals to our neighbors in need.

“At City Mission we are blessed to have an incredibly generous community, and benefit from many generous partners. The continued generosity of vendors at Schenectady Greenmarket is making a great impact in our goal to serve meals with good nutritional value.”
– Elizabeth Chamberlain, Director of Development, City Mission of Schenectady
