Fall Harvest has arrived!  But the mild fall weather means there are still lots of your summer favorites as well.

Pick up some pumpkins and gourds make your home look festive!
And don’t forget those beautiful fall bouquets!

  It’s the perfect weather for cozy roast dinners.

Our vendors have meats and vegetables perfect for dinners at home.

Maybe a peach cobbler? Pick up some delicious peaches at the market while you can!

Hudson Valley Hand-Cut Scones: This week at the market we’ll have Lemon, Cranberry Orange, Chocolate , Maple Walnut and Savory Cheddar Chive.

Mariaville Farm: Fresh never frozen chicken, whole and parts, last chance of the season for fresh. Black Angus beef, Berkshire pork. Fresh eggs from our free roaming hens.

Maynard Farms: The dipping temperatures are helping it feel like fall!  So are the amazing apples being harvested at Maynard Farms!  This week we will be adding Golden Delicious to our already abundant apple line up! We’ll have all your favorites like Honey Crisp, Gala, Fuji, Macoun, Pink Lady, Empire, MacIntosh, Granny Smith, Evercrisp, Red Delicious and Cortland.  Or try one of our unusual or heirloom varieties – Jonathan, Northern Spy, Ida Red, Jonagold, Mutsu, Blondee, Bramley’s Seedling, Wine Crisp, Stayman Winesap or Esopus Spitzenburgh. Something for everyone! Fresh pressed Apple Cider is a true taste of fall, as are our delicious pears!  Crunchy Bosc or smooth and sweet Bartlett and Magness – it’s up to you!!  Grapes are always a pleaser – Concord, Jupiter and Mars will be at markets this weekend.  If you’re like us, you can’t let go of summer just yet – we will have delicious Yellow and White Peaches and Nectarines.  We’ll also have lots of flavorful plums to choose from – Big Red Plums, Flavor Rich, and Italian Prune Plums. Sweet, juicy and delicious!! Don’t forget your veggies! How about tender, delicious beans – Green, Wax, Flat, and yes, Marvel of Venice and Dragon’s Tongue – the choices!!! Try our sweet peppers in an array of fall colors – yellow, red, orange, purple and chocolate brown – crispy raw or delicious in chili or soups!  Eggplant Parmesan, anyone?  Heirloom eggplant in beautiful shades of purple and white are just perfect for your delicious dish.  Zucchini, summer squash, curly kale, tuscan kale, rainbow chard and garlic will also be available. We’ll have beautiful cauliflower in purple, orange and white and broccoli – extra delicious tossed with olive oil, fresh garlic and roasted!!  There’s not much better to remind you of summer than a fresh picked heirloom tomato – stop by and see our beautiful selection of colorful slicing and cherry tomatoes – from sweet as sugar to more savory.  All will all be available at the markets this weekend!  That’s a mouthful – literally! 10 – 12   CAC(formerly Craic Agus Ceol) — C.A.C. is for “Craic Agus Ceol”, which means “fun and music” in Irish Gaelic.  What better name for a band that is all about combining fun and music.CAC is a band focusing on Irish, Americana and some country, bluegrass style music.

12 – 2   90 Years Running — Focusing mainly on roots music, 40’s &50′ music. classic rock and folk, stop by and feel some nostalgia.

Whispering Willows Wild Care: Whispering Willow Wild Care is an educational non-profit that was built on the passions and kind heart of Joyce Perry. Perry and her dedicated volunteers have been assisting wildlife for the last 17 years.  Because of the vast combination of training, experience and resources, each animal that comes to the center is given the best chance of rehabilitation and if possible – release into the wild.

Electric City Roasters:  will have a limited quantity of our new Holiday Blend, Feestdagen!  A nod to Schenectady’s Dutch roots, it’s our version of the original Mokha Java.

Healthy Gourmet Kitchen:  Soup season has officially begun! Our mixes are great for a quick, healthy, delicious meal and many can be made in the slow cooker or instant pot.

Schenectady’s Thriving Neighborhoods Challenge is The Schenectady Foundation’s new grant program, intended to help make Schenectady’s neighborhoods stronger, healthier, safer, greener and more sustainable.  The Challenge empowers citizens to come forward with their best ideas for improving their community — and then, to actually make them happen!  Along the way, neighborhood leadership is strengthened, and more people become involved in the resurgence of their community.

Other cities have been very successful with this model of citizen engagement. Why not Schenectady?

Let’s start with Grapes – they are always a pleaser – Seedless Vanessa Red, Gratitude, Faith, Joy and Traditional Concord will be at markets this weekend!  Yellow and White Peaches and Yellow and White Nectarines are always a favorite.  Plums taste like summer – Alderman, Elephant Heart, Black, Big Red, Shiro and new this week – Flavor Grenade and Bluebird Italian Prune Plums!  We are picking new varieties of apples almost everyday – Gala, McIntosh, Blondee, Kindercrisp, Zestar and Ginger Gold! The musical group Tanager is dedicated to the performance and interpretation of traditional jazz from the 1920’s and 30’s. The group consists of five professional musicians/teachers from the Albany area: Megan Gebert Wilson (vocals), Scott Vorwald (clarinet & saxophone), Andrew Mollica (guitar), Bill Hoeprich (bass) and Ben Rau (drums).

The season is full of so many beautiful shades of tomatoes, peppers, squash, eggplants, beans, beats, lettuce…  Your salad can be a work of art!

Tomatoes that is….lots and lots of beautiful field ripened Heirloom Slicing Tomatoes and Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes in gorgeous shades of red to orange and yellow to green and purple to brown. They taste even better than they look! Stop by Maynard Farms at the Farmer’s Market to check them out! Also new this week are delicate, sweet White Donut Peaches, tasty Elephant Heart Plums and fresh from the orchard Ginger Gold Apples!! Peaches and Nectarines are just fantastic – Yellow and White Peaches, Red Flesh Peaches and Yellow and White Nectarines are all juicy and flavorful. We’ll also have a terrific selection of plums – Purple Heart, Shiro, Red Heart, Plum G and Red Russian, as well as sweet Blueberries the size of quarters! Don’t forget our impressive array of crisp, tasty apples. From sweet Fuji, Golden Delicious, Empire, Macoun, Red Delicious and Pristine – and tangy to tart Mutsu, Pink Lady, Stayman Winesap and Braeburn…all are delicious, you cannot go wrong! It’s time for the Second Sunday Music fest!  This week we welcome the Graeme Francis Trio.

The Graeme Francis Trio:

An accomplished percussionist and music educator, Dr. Graeme Francis has been performing with and leading small jazz groups around the US and Canada since he early 2000’s, including a performance with the Doc Watkins Trio at Carnegie Hall. He is excited to have two of his favorite collaborators with him – Tyler Giroux (valve trombone) and Lou Smaldone (bass) – for his performance at the Schenectady Greenmarket. Drawing on traditional and new arrangements of jazz standards, the Graeme Francis Trio offers an exciting and swingin’ soundtrack on August 12th from 10am-2pm. For more information about Graeme’s musical endeavors, check out GFpercussion.com
