Food Donations

Every week, vendors at Schenectady Greenmarket choose to donate their produce rather than hauling it home. Donations of bushels of beautiful, fresh produce, artisan bread, dozens of eggs and hundreds of jars of jam have been given to the Schenectady Inner City Ministry Food Pantry, City Mission, Bethesda House, Safe House, Head Start, and the Regional Food Bank. Rev. Philip Grigsby, Executive Director of the Schenectady Inner City Ministry says, “People need vegetables. Vegetables are good for you. We try to have produce year-round but we really are dependent on the season and the donations.” Consequently, we have instituted a system whereby a range of local charities receives donations on a rotating basis.

Your donations are greatly appreciated too! Customers are always welcome to add to our weekly donations – feel free to buy food at the market or bring your own food donations and we’ll add it to the donations boxes.

If you are a local charity and would like to be added to the list of organizations that receives food donations from Schenectady Greenmarket, we encourage you to stop by the market table and leave us your information so that we can get in touch with you. You may also email us at
