Watching the Academy Awards this Sunday? Prepare for your awards-watching party at your award-winning market!

In 2016, Schenectady Greenmarket was voted the 25th best farmers market in the US and the 2nd best in the state of New York! And those who come to the market regularly know why – we have great vendors, great music, great kids activities, and a great festive atmosphere to meet up with friends, family, and neighbors.

Come down this Sunday to learn about the history of Underground Railroad in our community, listen to local musicians Cosby Gibson and Bret Scott, do a little shopping for handmade crafts and goods, and of course, stock up on locally-produced food and beverages for your Oscar-watching!

The Underground Railroad
Mary Liz Stewart
The Underground Railroad was the movement that enslaved African Americans used to gain freedom in the 19th Century. The Capital Region of New York State was visited by thousands of fugitives seeking freedom in the years prior to the Civil War. URHPCR, Inc. seeks to acknowledge the active underground railroad movement in our region, to raise awareness about and stimulate interest in this little recognized and inspiring part of our history, to understand it in its historic context, to encourage the recognition of local historic figures and the activities in which they engaged, to preserve that history, and to relate that history with us today.
