Who’s got the best tomato?

 

Thanks to everyone who took part in the tomato tasting at the market last Sunday.  We hope you all loved all the delicious and beautiful tomatoes our farmers submitted.  This year we had 11 varieties tomatoes.   Lots of customers voted and even more stopped to taste and ask us where their favorite came from.

And the winners of the 2017 Schenectady Greenmarket Tomato Tasting are:
First Place – Pink Beauty from Hope Valley Farm
Second Place –Beef Steak from Buhrmaster Farm
Third place – Big Beef from Hope Valley Farm
Tied for Fourth place:  Bella Terra just ask & Maynard Farm Green Zebra

Maynard Farms:Happy Labor Day! Celebrate Labor Day with the fruits – and vegetables – of our labor!! We’ll have lots of fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables to help complete your Labor Day celebration at the market this weekend. Yellow and White Peaches and Yellow and White Nectarines are still juicy and tasty! Yellow and White Donut peaches, too. Plums, blueberries, raspberries and late season strawberries taste like summer. We are picking new varieties of apples almost everyday – Autumn Crisp, Gala, McIntosh and yes, Honey Crisp will join our other new season apples – Blondee, Kindercrisp, Dandy Red, Zestar and Ginger Gold! Fresh pressed apple cider. Red and Green Bartlett pears. And don’t forget about the veggies – colorful sweet peppers in yellow, red, orange, purple and green, heirloom eggplant in beautiful shades of purple and white, corn, baby beets, zucchini, summer squash, baby carrots, kirbies, cucumbers, kale, garlic, cauliflower and broccoli. Heirloom tomatoes are at their peak – all colors and flavors of slicing tomatoes – sweet or savory – and sweet as sugar cherry tomatoes – how will you choose?? All will all be available at the markets this weekend! That’s a mouthful – literally!!! Look forward to seeing you!
