Happy Fourth of July!

Well, almost. Independence Day is next Wednesday, and that means parties, picnics, and celebrations with friends and family. You’ll need to stop by Schenectady Greenmarket this Sunday to pick up all of your party foods – fresh leafy salad greens, delicious hummus and salsas, crisp veggies for dipping (or just plain snacking), wine and beer, and delectable desserts made from the sweetest local fruits. What a way to celebrate our nation’s 236th Birthday! See you at the market.

What’s Fresh This Week

Quincy Farm will have delicious fresh cucumbers; golden and green zucchini; cole slaw cabbage; baby arugula; herbs; carrots and more!

Barber’s Farm: Cauliflower; romanesque and regular broccoli; red cabbage – green and pointy head; tomatoes and peppers from our high tunnels; the first candy onions; shelling- and snap-peas; parsley; basil, and garlic scapes.

Shushan Valley Hydro Farm: We will have supersweet cherry tomatoes; beefsteak and vine cluster tomatoes; sweet and crunchy baby cucumbers; seedless Asian cucumbers; delicious green pole beans; lettuce; arugula; watercress; sweet basil; cilantro and many more herbs.

Maynard Farm: White and yellow peaches, yellow sugar plums, apricots, sweet cherries, tree-ripened black plums, blueberries, raspberries, and Lodi apples. Veggies: snow, snap and English shell peas; romanesco and white cauliflower; purple and greeen broccoli; garlic; rainbow chard; collards; two kinds of kale; zukes and cukes.

The Hudson-Chatham Winery: Looking for that picnic perfect wine? We’ve got what you need for your Fourth of July celebration. Choose from our crisp, dry Seyval Blanc white wine, one of our summertime favorite “sweets” – Ghent Blush and Lindenwald White – or a classic sparkling wine, our Blanc de Blanc. We even have a dry red for burgers and steaks. Celebrate summer with local wines that will be the hit of the party.

Freddy’s Rockin’ Hummus: Check out our newest flavors – Kalamata olive and Chinese chive with cracked pepper. We’ll also have our classic original, garlic lemon, roasted jalapeno, and roasted pepper flavors. Stop by and taste what you’ve been missing – see you on Sunday!

Skinner’s Sugarbush: Blueberry, peach and strawberry rhubarb pielets; peach mini cakes, and delicious maple syrup will be available. Sample our new lingonberry shortbread and potato chip crunch cookie. And at last, my cookbook “The Naturally Good Cook” which contains many of my recipes from the market, has been published and is for sale!

Naga Bakehouse offers delicious and filling wood-fired Artisan breads shaped and baked by hand! Come by for a salt-and-caraway stick, a flatbread, or the ever-popular stuffed breads. We’re always trying new toppings and fillings – think kale, garlic, parmesan or pears with gorgonzola! See you on Sunday.

Funk Farms will have apple-raspberry pies and strawberry rhubarb pies made from fresh local produce.

Sororia Organics has a fresh batch of herbal facial cleanser – keeps skin clean without drying. We also have our new eco soy candles and of course, our fabulous soap!

Three Chicks and a P: Specializing in fresh homemade tahini-free hummus. We’ll have all your favorites this week, including cilantro lime and hot habanero. Stop by and sample our fresh homemade mango black bean salsa and other yummy surprises! Kick up your Fourth of July celebration with hummus themed party platters!

Our Daily Eats: Fresh basil pesto 2 for $13 this week: pair with local tomatoes, mozzarella and you have a great appetizer!  Made with care in the Hudson Valley.

Chick and Hen Baking Company: Empanadas, spinach and feta pie, Roman pizzas, sesame chicken with apricot mustard, and quiche. we’ll also have cold tomato gazpacho, roasted beet salad, Israeli couscous, and cool sesame noodles. Summer Has Finally Arrived!

Celebrate the season with the summer’s freshest fruits and vegetables, which are starting to appear at the market! Cherries, peaches, plums, strawberries, raspberries…broccoli, cucumbers, cauliflower, peas, greens….the summer’s most delicious treats are available now from your favorite Schenectady Greenmarket vendors. And this Sunday is looking to be a beautiful sunny day – a great opportunity for you to celebrate the beginning of summer with a day out with friends and fellow market shoppers!

What’s Fresh This Week

Maynard Farms: Peaches, sweet cherries, black plums, blueberries, raspberries, and new crop Lodi apples (they make the best “with attitude” applesauce). Veggies: snow, snap and English shell peas; cauliflower, broccoli, garlic, rainbow chard, collards, two kinds of kale, zukes and cukes.

Barber’s Farm: fresh lettuce, edible pod peas, broccoli, cabbage, yellow summer squash, zucchini, slicing and pickling cucumbers, and garlic scapes.

Burden Lake Creamworks is offering peppermint hand, face and body cream for summer – enhanced with cocoa butter and the sweet vanilla fragrance of balsam essential oil.

Mariaville Farm: Fresh chicken, duck, and eggs. No-nitrate sausage and bacon. Heritage pork and dry aged pasture raised Black Angus beef. Visit Café NOLA for one of our Black Angus burgers!

Happy Father’s Day!

This Sunday is not only market day, it’s Father’s Day! So grab your Dad (or another special father in your life) and bring him down to Schenectady Greenmarket! What’s Fresh This Week

Maynard Farms: Peaches, strawberries, and two kinds of cherries

Hope Valley Farm: Bok choi, beets, broccoli raab (rapini), baby greens and lettuce mix, head lettuce, kale, jumbo radishes, arugula, Swiss chard, annuals, perennials, herbs, planters.

Quincy Farm will have salad greens, including spicy baby arugula and Boston lettuces, plus delicious golden and green zucchini, and the spring’s first broccoli. Season it up with fresh herbs like garlic scapes, dill, cilantro, and fresh basil!

Barber’s Farm will have broccoli, pointy head cabbage, and peas; flowers, vegetable plants, and herbs are still available.

Skinner’s Sugarbush – Peach and strawberry rhubarb pielets that will melt in your mouth, lemon loaf cake and scones (which go great with fresh strawberries and cream), and new this week: island shortbread cookies loaded with pineapple, macadamia nuts and topped with a pineapple glaze. Hope Valley Farm: Arugula, lettuce, jumbo radishes, Swiss chard, broccoli raab, kale, beets, spinach; as well as perennials, annuals and potted herbs.

Barber’s Farm: Peas, lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, baby beets with greens, bunching onions, kale and collards; bunches of basil and parsley. We still have vegetable plants and beautiful flowers to brighten your gardens.

Mariaville Farm: Fresh chicken, duck and eggs from free roaming pasture raised chickens; hot dogs, kielbasa and pepperoni; black Angus steaks; lamb and pork; plus five types of sausages and no-nitrate bacon.

Shushan Valley Hydro Farm: We will have all of our tomatoes, including oh-so-sweet cherry, vine cluster and beefsteak tomatoes; Asian cucumbers and baby cukes; green beans, plus all of our herbs and greens!

Zorbas Natural Food: Gar-la-la flavors: original, roasted red pepper, sun-dried tomato, basil horseradish dill, horseradish with vegan bacon, and artichoke spinach. Also available: sweet potato ginger and chipotle hummus, and our gluten-free Herb-Zeez crackers.

Three Chicks and a P: Three olive hummus will be back, along with other new flavors including cilantro lime and Indian spice. We’ll also have classic favorites: artichoke tapenade and sundried tomato pesto.
